Ethics@noon: Adina Glickman (Center for Teaching & Learning) "Stereotype Threat: Creating Safety in Learning"

Stereotype threat is a well-researched phenomenon which describes the effects of being viewed through the lens of a negative stereotype, or the fear of doing something that would inadvertently confirm that stereotype. It can interfere with academic performance. How do students and faculty work to reduce this threat? What are the ethical responsibilities of the individual and the institution, to identify and attenuate this phenomenon?
