CONTRASTS QUARTET

Contrasts Quartet returns with a program of 20th century works inspired by folk music from Eastern Europe and the Americas. Hungarian composers Zoltán Kodály and Béla Bartók are represented by the former's Duo for violin and cello (1914), deeply informed by the melodies and dance rhythms of Magyar folk music; and the latter's Contrasts for clarinet, violin and piano, originally composed for the jazz clarinetist Benny Goodman. Also featured are Maurice Ravel's Sonata for violin and cello (1920-22); and Aram Khachaturian's Trio for violin, cello and piano.
