Writing as a Way of Healing

Writers, literary critics, doctors, and social scientists have spoken of the power of writing as a form of healing. In this course we will be developing a definition of healing as it applies to writing. The writing process in this five week class will be presented as a form of ritual that can become a meditative and healing process. Each class will include a short discussion of readings that address the connection between writing, creativity, and health, in-class writing activities, and reading of participant writing.

Instructor: Marjorie Ford has taught in Stanford's writing program for over 20 years. She has published many texts on writing. The 7th edition of her most popular book, Dreams and Inward Journeys, will be available this summer.
