Mindless Eating & Mindlessly Eating Better

The Center for Healthy Weight at Stanford University and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford present a special presentation by Brian Wansink, PhD, Professor of Marketing at Cornell University and author of Mindless Eating. Dr. Wansink will discuss, “Mindless Eating & Mindlessly Eating Better”.

Everyone — every single one of us — eats how much we eat largely because of what is around us. We overeat not because of hunger but because of family and friends, packages and plates, names and numbers, labels and lights, colors and candles, shapes and smells, distractions and distances, cupboards and containers. This list is almost as endless as it is invisible. Knowing how these influence us isn't enough to stop them. This presentation shows how to identify these traps and how to change our environment so we mindlessly eat less and enjoy it more.

Speaker Profile: Brian Wansink (Ph.D. Stanford) is the John Dyson Professor of Consumer Behavior at Cornell University, where he directs the Cornell Food and Brand Lab. He is author of over 100 academic articles and books, including the best-selling Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think (2006). From 2007-2009 Wansink accepted a Presidential appointment as Executive Director of USDA's Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, the Federal agency in charge of developing 2010 Dietary Guidelines and promoting the Food Guide Pyramid (MyPyramid.gov).
