"Propositions" - Devised Theater Project 2

SiCa sponsors an original, site-specific, theatrical performance by Stanford students.

In Devised Theater class last winter, a fearless group of non-Drama majors took on the daunting task of devising—or collaboratively creating and performing--a 45-minute play that explores three California Propositions (animal rights, drug treatment programs, and gay marriage). This spring, a reconstituted group, under the direction of two graduate students, has re-devised a performance that more fully explores the nature of propositions and how they work—or don't work. The piece has also examines the nature of performance, audience, and space.

The event, taking place outdoors, welcomes the audience to witness, consider, and at times, take part in, a series of theatrical moments by choosing what to watch, how to watch, and whether or not to engage—including choosing food, drink and seating.

Kevin DiPirro, a lecturer in PWR, is the coordinator of the project. Rachel Anderson and Matthew Moore, graduate students in Drama, are the directors.
